PRESIDENT’S REPORT   6/2005

April 2005 saw the Ettalong Chess Club engaging in a Round Robin Tournament with eleven participants.   This event took place from 2nd April and concluded on 21st May 2005.   The tournament was conducted in a spirit of co operation and friendliness.  From the beginning clear leaders began to emerge....the bright stars shone the brightest as the other  stars were still trying to come into being....but all should be encouraged with these results!

The prize giving, trophy award day was conducted at the  Ettalong Beach War Memorial Club at 2.00 pm at which occasion Joe Frias received first prize

Everyone seemed to be in agreement about the new coloured score total sheets.....they met with approval from all.

It is intended that a similar tournament will be held sometime in September, the Spring quarter.

I feel greatly encouraged by the good spirit which pervaded the whole recent event and look forward to a repetition in the Spring with all candidates eager to participate.

Club membership ebbs and flows but over the last year seems to have  increased marginally with Saturday being our most popular day having very often 12 members present.   Tuesday continues to be much less well attended with an average of between 2 and 4.   Thursday night continues with difficulty over the Winter months.   The problems of having to move from familiar premises to the new club have not been without difficulty and at this time we are still in negotiations with the club to find a suitable room where we can play chess.
