Central Coast Leagues Chess Club July 2000 Blitz GP3

The turnout for this was encouraging, and as soon as we worked out exactly where to play, the tournament was on.

Mal led the tournament with a clean score, and it looked encouraging for him when the top seed dropped a game in round 2 - against John D'Bais.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and Mal and John Nutter met in round 5 and after 2 hard-fought games John had the lead and was essentially not troubled after that.

Many of the players were also playing in the Mingara King's Gambit tournament and took the opportunity to experiment with that opening - where appropriate but also Tony brought it out in his encounter with Mr Nutter (which was a Falbeer CounterGambit).

Keith at least improved on the last blitz by getting the odd game here and there, and some lost opportunities - having lost on time a pretty much won game against Jack D'Bais in round 2; a won game against John D'Bais (admittedly after John's serial blundering in the last round [fatigue?]) but losing focus and leaving his King in check. Such is blitz.

In the may tournament you may remember that Jim pretty much took a game off everyone except the winner, in this he consolidated and showed how keeping your composure was indeed an asset in this kind of chess.
